    "Its not about your beliefs". Dont kid yourself...Buddhism is wall-to-wall beliefs. Even the Kwan Um school. Deviate one inch from those beliefs and you'll find yourself cleaning the temple toilets for the rest of your life.

    "What made this path right for you?" Never seek any path based on personal preference. Seek a path to the universal truth that applies equally to everyone.

    "All that talk doesnt make any difference. You have to look inside and find the truth for yourself" No Sangha has ever been run this way...because every monk would find a different truth and it would be chaos. Studying the Suttas and Sutras is what binds the Sangha together and keeps its anchor in the Dharma. BOTH meditation AND study are necessary.

      Exactly and that is why there is practice AND study at Kwan Um school. There is a lot of teaching and a lot of teachers who give a lot of talks at Kwan Um.

    Yes thank you Diego for sharing your story! Perhaps one day you could do a video on different sitting styles for meditation practice. I struggle with sitting cross legged.

    • @pzcweb
      @pzcweb 28 дней назад

      You do not need to sit cross legged to practice - you could sit in seiza on a meditation bench, or sit in a chair, or do walking meditation. You can learn a bit more about different forms of Kwan Um practice in this video: ruclips.net/video/s_X_zX0wsdM/видео.html

    I thought her answer to the last question on pain was fragmented. Firstly what might have been noted is that ALL pain begins in the mind. ALL chronic pain is a function of the brain. The brain wires to feel pain mostly from trauma events that keep playing over and over again until the conscious mind recognizes and creates something different..Non-pain. In my opinion she should have declined the question because her answer was insufficient. People do and have ended chronic pain. This man was looking for hope and got more mainstream medical jargon.

    How fascinating. I thought zen was all ethereal. Now I see from the first talk, people are just like me, a combination of in the head and in spirit. This is very inspiring.

    Most people don't go deep, so they take the outward appearance of religion and think its different, I come from a Muslim background, and most Sufi writings say you should verify for yourself and not believe of follow blindly. Whatever you read should be a confirmation of your experience. But its just a way or style to realize who you are. For me Islam is just a facette or development or evolution or interpretation of Zen, and Zen is just an explanation or evolution or further development of Islam. If you go deep you can find they use often similar if not the exact same words, to point to the same experience, like the face, original face, Being, Reality, One, as it is, Presence, seeing, waking up, realizing, verifying, knowing oneself, unveiling, revealing, revelation, no thought, before thought, closer to you than yourself, etc..

      Thank you and very enlightening but from what I can see many modern Sufis are still non dual ? And Allah is still worshipped in second person as a "holy other"?

      @@swayp5715 "If you look at an object and realize it's inherent inexistence by itself or its dependency to a prior cause, by being mindful of this while looking at it you will then witness reality from it's timeless source" Who wrote this was it a Zen monk or a Muslim scholar ? The person who said this is called the Greatest Teacher in Islam, but could it have been a Zen master ? Ofcourse. What is the difference? No difference. The difference is created by thought and labeling 😂

I noted the very similar No Nonsense Buddhism book by another author, similar art and format, but without knowledge of the publishing company's practices in setting up the format, and was like "well... I guess that we really should be doing any and all things to help..." 😅

    Great interview, I’m very happy you are posting these interviews with our monastics and teachers. Out center in Maine used to do just heart sutra in English and Great Dahrani. Maybe two years ago we decided to switch off weekly, one week HS and GD, the other week is homage to the three jewels and heart sutra in Korean. We also always include kwan seum bosal chanting every week. It’s worked really well for us, and now our sangha knows these 5 chants very well! But every zen center in our school finds their way, it’s really nice.
